The one setting that matters most

Why Dining is the default pick on the UOB Lady's Card

The Lady's Card makes you choose exactly one of seven categories, and the choice is locked until you change it. Dining is the default here for three reasons that compound.

01

The round-down rule quietly favours dining

Most cards round every transaction down to the nearest S$5 block before awarding miles — a S$4.90 kopi earns nothing, and a S$12.80 lunch only earns on S$10. The Lady's Card is different: bonus transactions are summed across the month first, then rounded down once. Dining is the category with the most small, awkwardly-sized transactions, so it's exactly where that single round-down saves the most.

02

Dining stacks with more third-party layers than any other category

Food is the one category where a second and third rewards layer sits on top of the card itself. The card earns its 4–10 mpd, and the platform earns again on the same dollar.

  • Kris+ — SIA's app; partner F&B pays 0.33–9 mpd in KrisPay miles (dining averages 3.3) on top of the card, transferring to KrisFlyer 1:1 if you move them within 21 days
  • GrabFood — GrabRewards points layered over the card's dining bonus
  • ShopBack — cashback on dining vouchers and delivery orders
  • FavePay — merchant vouchers bought at a discount, then paid for with the card
How the stack actually behaves: a Kris+ payment is not a prepaid top-up — it codes as an online transaction and keeps the merchant's own MCC. So an MCC-driven bonus like the Lady's Card dining category survives it, but any bonus that requires a physical tap does not: the UOB Visa Signature pays 0.4 mpd through Kris+ instead of 4. Model it with the Kris+ toggle in the calculator below before committing real volume.
03

Dining fills the S$1,000 cap without effort

A bonus category is only worth choosing if you can actually fill its S$1,000 monthly cap — an unfilled cap is wasted rate. Dining is high-frequency and recurring, so it fills steadily. Travel and Fashion are lumpy: big in some months, empty in others, which leaves the cap idle and the rate unused.

Change the category on the card in the gallery above if your own spending says otherwise — the calculator re-runs instantly.

02 — Your everyday wallet

Tell us how you actually spend

Enter your typical monthly spend per category (defaults are common Singapore household figures — overwrite them). Every card's real earn rules run against your numbers: bonus rates, monthly caps, minimum spends, exclusions and round-downs.

Insurance and utilities aren't here — because no card pays for them. Every major issuer has now excluded both: DBS in 2019, HSBC 2020, Amex 2021, UOB 2022 and 2024, Standard Chartered 2024, Maybank 2025, with Citi, OCBC and BOC alongside them. Charged straight to a card they earn exactly nothing, so listing them would only inflate your numbers. Both moved to Section 03, where a bill-pay platform is the only route that still earns.

Your card strategy

Nobody puts everything on one card. This finds the best combination, routing each category to the card that pays most, then spilling into the next card once a cap fills.

When two cards pay the same rate, spend goes to UOB Lady's first, then UOB Preferred Visa, then DBS Woman's or Citi Rewards. A card that genuinely pays more always wins regardless.

03 — Turbo mode

Buy miles by paying bills that don't normally earn any

Platforms like CardUp and ipaymy let you charge rent, insurance, utilities, tuition, condo fees, mortgages and loan instalments to a credit card — for an admin fee. For insurance and utilities this is now the only way to earn anything at all. Rates differ by payment type, not just category: a recurring instruction is almost always cheaper than a single one-off payment. Each row below shows the exact rate, promo code and resulting cost-per-mile.

Taxes, carrier surcharges and fees (from US$24) are payable in cash on top of miles and are not included above.
355-day rule, double-checked: Singapore Airlines loads KrisFlyer Saver and Advantage award inventory at T-355 days before departure. For non-US departures this happens at 8:00am Singapore time. For flights originating in the USA, load time shifts with US Daylight Saving Time (≈12–1pm SGT for the East Coast, ≈3–4pm SGT for the West Coast) — irrelevant here since every itinerary on this page originates in Singapore (Zone 1), so 8:00am SGT applies.

How your spending actually gets classified

Bonus rates are almost never about where you shop — they turn on the 4-digit Merchant Category Code the terminal reports. Search any merchant to see its code, which category it lands in, and the cards that pay best there under your current plan.
